MWB Dental Relief – “Giving a Reason to Smile” Campaign
Sara El-Sherbini – May 10, 2012
Muslims Without Borders-Dental Relief Branch is the nation’s first dental student-based organization created to help alleviate suffering worldwide. The organization focuses on arranging relief trips to provide dental care to places with inadequate, or even non-existent, healthcare. Sadly, inadequate dental care is a serious and under-addressed issue. Unfortunately, thousands of people around the world suffer the consequences of pain and infection from abscesses caused by tooth decay.
God Willing, our upcoming trips include Haiti this June, Palestine this winter, and the Gambia next spring. As a result we are launching “Giving a Reason to Smile,” a campaign to recruit donors to commit a minimum $10 monthly donation for one year or more. All donations directly fund supplies and instruments used for our patients and are zakat eligible. The MSA member from a particular chapter who recruits the most donors will win a once in a lifetime opportunity to go on MWB-DR’s trip to the holy city of Jerusalem in December! The competition is from April 28th through August 31st, 2012, and the winner will be announced at the ISNA National Convention Labor Day weekend, 2012.
Monthly and bulk donations are also accepted from non-MSA members who want to donate to this noble cause! Please visit www.mwbdental.org to donate and for more information about our current and future projects.
